History of M.V. College, Buxar

Buxar owns its importance as a historical place almost exclusively to its colossal Vishvamitra Ashram, which still stands majestically. The traditional account of its holy antiquity as an important center of Vishnu and Shiva worship is embedded in Balmiki’s Ramayan, Ramcharitmanas, and some of the Puranas. This town, known as Siddhashram, witnessed a remarkable outburst of intellectual activities during the time of Vishvamitra in the Vedic period.

The new spirit of the modern age was remarkably illustrated by the life and thought of Sri Khakhi Baba (Saketpurbasi) and Sri Mauni Baba (Janakpurbasi). Undoubtedly, Khakhi Baba was a great social reformer, religious teacher, and a tower of philosophical wisdom in this region. He worked tirelessly for reforms in the educational field. Deeply religious but not theologically inclined, he laid great emphasis on modern education, including co-education. For this purpose, he founded Maharshi Vishwamitra Mahavidyalaya (M.V. College), Buxar on 11th June 1957.

Maharshi Vishwamitra Mahavidyalaya, Buxar is now a reputable institution with excellent administration, infrastructure, facilities, and academic activities in the Buxar district of Bihar. The college excels not only in academics but also in extracurricular activities and sports. Graduates from this institution have secured positions in top-level, reputed government, public sector, and private organizations.

The college is well-equipped with all necessary infrastructure and modern facilities to support academic studies and research, fostering an environment that promotes knowledge, innovation, and holistic student development.
